If no other knowledge deserves to be called useful but that which
helps to enlarge our possessions or to raise our station in society, then
Mythology has no claim to the appellation. But if that which tends to
make us happier and better can be called useful, then we claim that
epithet for our subject. For Mythology is the handmaid of literature: and
literature is one of the best allies of virtue and promoters of happiness.
Thomas Bulfinch
I feel we can include all the arts as allies of virtue and promoters
of happiness. Certainly Mythology has been an inspiration to artists and
a subject unsurpassed in volume and interpretation through millenniums.
Millennimyths is my tribute to these ageless fables as we enter a new
millennium. This will be the fifth millennium for some of the oldest of
myths.
I always believed my art allowed me to use the creative force of life,
it's totality, its beauty, its energy to feel connected to all creation. My
work expresses thoughts and feelings that are inexpressible in any other
way.
The series of work in Millennimyths seemed to really be inspired
by divine muses. These mythological works wanted to be. The process
of creating them was a synthesis, meditative and lyrical. My brush
strokes became transcendental, seemingly guided by a collaborative
effort of my own creative spirit and some mystical force.
These are a few samples of a larger current series of drawings
and paintings celebrating ageless fables facing a new millennium.
